Way back in the day, I had heard about this punk band called the Misfits that sang songs about horror movies, and I searched like crazy for stuff by them. But living on a farm in Alabama in those pre-internet days only got you so far in life, so my results were scarce. Still, I wound up getting Evilive on vinyl, Misfits on CD and Legacy of Brutality on cassette, and a couple of t-shirts. By this point, Glenn Danzig had started Samhain, but I had no idea and wouldn’t track down any of their stuff until I started reading interviews with Danzig in advance of the release of the self-titled solo LP (I’m looking at you, Halloween ’87 issue of RIP).
But anyway, I’d have killed to have been able to see this on TV back in those days of yore. Here’s the ’83 lineup of the Misfits, THE LAST LINEUP THAT MATTERED, performing on the Dearborn, MI cable access program Why Be Something You’re Not? It’s one of the only pro-shot shows of the group (the only other one I can find is another ’83 show from Boston, filmed for Flipside Video Fanzine but never used; it’s longer, but I like the sound/performances on this better).
