Once again, it’s upon us. The chill in the air. The scent of burning leaves. Darkness creeping upon us earlier and earlier as day surrenders to the growing power of the night. Can you feel it? That uncertain shifting in your marrow as the spirits of the dead wander closer and closer to our realm? The gooseflesh and shiver that comes over you as you come to realize that the supernatural may be more real than you’ve given it credit in days earlier?
Listen to the wind, and you can hear it. The distant yowling of a black cat. The laughter of children as they contemplate what other visage they may take on that night. The rustling of unseen footsteps. Was that an errant squirrel scampering across your roof just now? Or was it…something else?
It’s that time of year when walking down that darkened hallway seems more…sinister than it has before. Memories of nightmares lost to memory long ago intrude into your waking mind. Half-recalled images from old horror films stir new visions what may wait for you at the end of that hallway.
It’s something that lasts longer than just a single night. It’s an entire month that we now stoke that November-Coming-Fire.
