It is with heavy heart that I pronounce that renowned occult rock band The Devil’s Blood has announced its dissolution into nothingness. Known for their vintage proto-/early heavy metal style resembling a female-fronted Blue Öyster Cult circa Agents of Fortune (I say this being from an age when Blue Öyster Cult were considered heavy metal), their embrace of chaos/anti-cosmic theistic Satanism (something which links them to bands such as Watain, Dissection and Arckanum) and their ritualized performances (emerging onto the stage baptized in blood), they cut a unique swath through the metal scene, earning slots at both Maryland Deathfest and on the first annual Decibel Magazine Tour (alongside other philosophical siblings In Solitude, Watain and Behemoth). I was lucky enough to see them on the Decibel tour at its Atlanta stop, and while I had enjoyed all of their recorded output (I’d been following them since Come, Reap), it took seeing them live for me to get rabid about them. A great band. They will be missed. Hails, SL and F.
Happy Sunday, kids. Here’s Satan:
Tonight the pact is sealed
And all mysteriis are revealed
If you know your master’s voice –
Will you know your master’s voice?
White faces, white faces always haunt me so beautifully
Learning temples, meditating churches
Always bring out the white of the devil in me
A voice called from beyond the stars
By way of the serpent whirling through my veins
Through the clatter of the iron age
Into the dreams of the insane:
Turn away from the light again!
I call your name: Devil of a thousand faces
Burning point! Oh endless disjoint
Great and pristine provider
Of nothingness and death… nothingess and death!
